The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to conduct a pilot program to develop a process necessary to modify a commercial-off-the-shelf advanced braking and suspension system that has proven effective on newer commercial vehicles. The project team will be expected to develop, pilot, refine, document, and demonstrate the processes to address how best to efficiently retrofit several vehicle variants at the depot level.
Specific objectives include:
- Perform design engineering refinement for brake kits to achieve lightweighting and performance goals. Ensure that resulting kits meet or exceed brake power performance, durability, and wear compared to older technology kits.
- Perform additional field, effectiveness, qualification, submersion, and shock testing with kits installed on all axles of the test vehicles.
