The DOD is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the state of the art in the development, qualification, and testing of advanced coatings to improve anti-corrosion, overall systems performance, and extended lifecycle of structures and parts required for applications in extreme environmental conditions. This initiative will leverage new design tools, materials, and processes to develop and assess emerging advanced coatings and application techniques required to enhance key structures and components. Special emphasis will be placed on determining new primer and low gloss coatings which can prolong corrosion protection in extreme environments and can reduce visual signature. The overall goal will be to work towards a consistent, repeatable, and reliable process for development of future coatings projects needed to reduce the schedule and costs of qualifying and testing them to perform in extreme environments.
