The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the engineering processes and tools utilized to safely design, install, operate, and assess equipment to be used for prototyping and advanced manufacturing. The goal will be to accommodate the need for disposable or attritable systems in an existing research and development facility. Special emphasis will be placed on ensuring proper upgrades and connections to key facility infrastructure systems such as power, ventilation, environmental and waste disposal, and fire suppression.
Industry partners must be subject matter experts in:
- capital equipment and facility analysis, design, and engineering
- installation tools, environmental testing processes and procedures
- facility concept studies
- industry best practices in developing process mapping, system testing, and safety
