The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to advance the engineering processes and tools needed to safely design, install, operate, and assess equipment to be used for prototyping and advanced manufacturing. The goal will be to accommodate the need for disposable or attritable systems in an existing research and development facility.
Advanced analytical, testing, engineering processes and modeling tools will be employed and evaluated to ensure advanced prototyping and manufacturing equipment operates correctly, safely, and reliably in existing facilities. Special emphasis will be placed on ensuring proper upgrades and connections to key facility infrastructure systems such as power, ventilation, environmental and waste disposal, and fire suppression.
Phase II will leverage lessons learned and deliverables from the previous phase and conduct additional concept studies for other laboratories and new designs and installations of new prototyping and testing equipment and the security systems that limit access to them during research and maintenance activities.
