The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to advance the engineering processes and tools needed to safely design, install, operate, and assess prototyping and advanced manufacturing equipment. The goal will be to accommodate the need for disposable or attritable systems in an existing research and development facility.

Advanced analytical, testing, engineering processes and modeling tools will be employed and evaluated to ensure advanced prototyping and manufacturing equipment operates correctly, safely, and reliably in existing facilities. Special emphasis will be placed on ensuring proper upgrades and connections to key facility infrastructure systems such as power, ventilation, environmental and waste disposal, and fire suppression.
Phase III will leverage lessons learned from the previous phases with the installation and operational testing of the common manifold design for deep submergence test chambers, the air emission system for a battery test facility, and a large capacity thermal chamber.
