The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to evaluate winter tires in the 395/85R20 size to improve winter performance. The overall objective is to manufacture and qualify a winter/all-season tire with improved performance in extreme cold, ice, and snow.

Specific objectives include:
• Manufacture a 395/85R20 winter/all-season tire with suitable component materials and tread design optimized for an on/off road winter tire
• Provide test prototype builds of winter/all-season tires in the 395/85R20 size
• Provide drawings with tire characteristic information and certifications with applicable/relevant US & European tire regulatory requirements
