The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to improve and standardize the business processes within and between military shipyards.  The goal is to test the ability of industrial software to not only model the business processes, but also store and catalog manufacturing data such as “G” code to enable computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines, training modules, reference documents, graphics, and pictures to support the shop floor.

Specific objectives include the following:

  • Improve basic information flow driven by shipyards’ roles, business procedures, and operations.
  • Begin creating and storing digital bill of process operations to facilitate the transition to an advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Utilize industrial software to run forecasting/planning models and adjust production plans
  • Understand if/how to incorporate maintenance data and required services from electronic facilities & equipment maintenance (eFEM)/Maximo systems and connected/monitored equipment.
