The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to advance the state of the art in agile software development, collaborative environments, and modeling and simulation tools and processes to update and sustain aviation maintenance commercial and government off the shelf (COTS/GOTS) software applications, so they are more reliable and resilient against cyber threats.

The overall goal is to develop new innovative approaches in agile software engineering to accomplish software upgrades, optimizations, and refinements while protecting critical maintenance data to assure security, interoperability, reliability, availability, maintainability, and performance.
Phase III will build on the successes of the earlier phases and will focus on concurrent development, sustainment, and maturation activities, ensuring continuous improvement of system capabilities while maintaining operational stability.
