The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to demonstrate, in an operational maintenance and sustainment environment, that AI-enabled industrial base analysis can identify the parts, suppliers, and production constraints governing readiness for a defined platform group and convert that understanding into sourcing options a sustainment organization can act on.

Additional key objectives include:

  • Establish a normalized data foundation across procurement, demand, readiness, supplier, and industrial base sources for the selected platform group
  • Map cross platform demand to common suppliers, factories, sub tier manufacturers, distributors, and material inputs
  • Produce demand forecasts from historical purchases, platform usage, maintenance cycles, and readiness needs
  • Identify parts affecting readiness, cost, lead time, or surge capacity, together with single points of failure, monopoly suppliers, long lead items, and fragile sub tier dependencies
  • Provide sourcing options and service level parameters, and the business case analysis and qualification documentation needed for transition
