The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to significantly improve maintenance and sustainment practices by transitioning to proactive maintenance strategies in order to enhance operational efficiency, reduce unexpected disruptions, and optimize resource allocation.

Specific objectives will include:

  • Create an analytical tool that leverages performance data to forecast maintenance needs, enabling timely interventions to prevent equipment failures.
  • Implement a predictive maintenance model in a controlled environment to assess its effectiveness.
  • Streamline maintenance planning and execution to reduce waste and improve productivity.
  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of prior initiatives that have improved readiness, reduced maintenance costs, and enhanced mission success.
  • Provide ongoing support and training to ensure long-term adoption and continuous refinement.
