The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to improve supply chain management for aviation logistics and maintenance organizations through the use of advanced data analytics that employ AI/ML in an integrated data environment. The overall goal will be to assess and synthesize the predictive performance of advanced mathematical algorithms designed to aid supply chain management for sustainment of a specific model of aircraft.

An industry partner will assess software developed and demonstrated during previous efforts to explore advanced mathematical algorithms that enable AI/ML techniques to address the current maintenance and sustainment shortfalls.

Specific goals include:

  • Assess the predictive AI/ML performance and provide recommendations on Deployment for Training (DFT), consumables, tools, special equipment, and other resources required to optimize performance
  • Establish and review the performance of the algorithms relative to maintenance assessment utility and effectiveness
  • Enable complete “cradle to grave” management of each aircraft from the moment of contractual acceptance from production to the retirement/strike of the aircraft.  This maintenance analysis includes all aspects including depot and deployment planning
  • Assess the approach’s ability to focus on depot induction, modification incorporation, low observable health monitoring, corrosion prevention and treatment, and high-time component tracking and forecasting
