The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the state-of-the-art in new environmentally compliant coating processes against existing SAE 2406 hard chrome plating and demonstrate improvements in performance. This effort will validate and demonstrate a unique non-chrome plating solution that is an environmentally compliant replacement for SAE 2406 hard chrome plating.

Specific objectives include:
• Establish and define aerospace requirements and produce an aerospace qualification test plan with performance objectives
• Identify potential demonstration sites, platform, and Beyond Economical Repair (BER) parts
• Process and test demonstration BER parts
• Execute a full laboratory test and evaluation of aerospace performance, and produce a laboratory test report
• Conduct a field demonstration and write a demonstration report
• Perform a toxicity assessment and provide a toxicity assessment report
