The US Army is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to create and assess a reference joint that has been joined by a Group I adhesive (a high-performance class of adhesives defined by MIL-PRF-32662, that specialize in high-loading-rate applications) alone, or by a hybrid joint design in combination with a fastener. The initial goal is to determine, through experimental and modeling efforts, if there is linear scalability or any non-linear behaviors associated with scaling up from standard laboratory test specimens.
