The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to develop non fluorinated coatings for vehicle parts that could achieve similar/better performance to traditional coatings or metal plated parts. The overall goal will be to develop, define, document, and validate non fluorinated coatings to match current performance specification in terms of abrasion, lubricity, and corrosion. In particular, the evaluation must adhere to current military specifications for coefficient of friction, hardness, torque-tension, abrasion resistance, and corrosion resistance.
