The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the state-of-the-art in Dynamic Response Analysis (DRA) tools and methods to optimize ship designs in ways which enhance safety, improve reliability and durability, and reduce maintenance costs across the ship’s life cycle.

Specific objectives include:

  • Analysis of relevant ship design details of hydrodynamics, mass properties, power and propulsion system components and sizing, plant lineups using various use cases.
  • Analysis of architecture performance (e.g. timing to complete state change steps) and component features to achieve or improve maneuvering capabilities, seakeeping, and operational availability.
