The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multi-phase CTMA initiative to develop and demonstrate condenser cleaning systems with automatic feeding and positioning systems that meet the space and interference requirements of shipboard work for both commercial and naval vessels.
This project will result in the refinement of a remotely controlled and automated tube positioning and self-driven lance feeding condenser cleaning systems that could be used across multiple platforms. Phase IV of this effort will refine and expand on solutions identified during the earlier phases. In particular, it will extend the usability to a number of submarine platforms as well to other types of Navy heat exchangers.
Specific goals include the following.
- Engineering development support
- Improvements of condenser cleaning equipment developed in Phases I-III
- Development of condenser cleaning equipment associated with additional heat exchangers
- Inclusion of another class of vessel
- Shipboard training and support during initial use of the equipment
