The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to establish an integrated capability that accelerates the generation of decision-quality engineering data for producing critical forged and cast components for engines, industrial power generation systems, heavy machinery, maritime propulsion systems, and large-diameter piping. The overall goal is to create a system for the Rapid Applied Materials Processing (RAMP)enterprise that will reduce technical uncertainty, improve manufacturing decision-making, shorten development and qualification cycles, and increase the effectiveness of public investments in advanced manufacturing.
Specific objectives for Phase II include:
- Resolve chemistry-processing-microstructure uncertainties affecting RAMP alloy systems.
- Establish manufacturability limits, processing windows, and technical decision products.
- Support alloy selection, process development, scale-up, and early qualification.
- Provide integrated program and project management support for RAMP.
- Develop workforce capability supporting defense manufacturing.
