The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to develop a data-informed Sustainment Goal Framework, categorized by asset type (Binning) and differentiated by an organization’s specific objectives. It will set the groundwork for developing, testing, and demonstrating a Facilities Investment Model in potential future developments. This will be accomplished through two main workstreams. The first will focus on a methodology to establish SMS data-informed sustainment goals and performance thresholds. The second will develop a methodology for the derivation of easily applicable asset types; distinct but readily recognized use or type groupings, criticality, mission type, etc. attributes. Differentiated goals and performance thresholds can then be assigned to each binned grouping.
