The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to conduct research and planning to define the technical, infrastructure, and safety requirements for a potential forward-deployed, containerized energetics production system that comprises six 20-foot modules.

Specific goals include the following:

  • Identify infrastructure, permitting, and safety factors that must be addressed to safely support future containerized energetics operations.
  • Define safety and siting parameters for containerized energetics operations consistent with DoD standards.
  • Evaluate power, containment, and remediation needs associated with hazardous-material handling, storage, and waste management.
  • Develop conceptual designs, process flow diagrams, and risk analyses to inform future engineering and safety planning.
