The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to demonstrate highly electrified vehicle power distribution and protection components, to enable significant operational advances in highly electrified military vehicles. Specific objectives include:

  • Develop and demonstrate a multi-port, multi-function traction inverter with capability of tractive drive/regen, dynamic braking, and power import/export
  • Develop components for an integrated and controlled system on the vehicle side power distribution and protection system
  • Demonstrate the functionality of the multi-function inverter and HV power distribution and protection system operating together over realistic power duty cycles
  • Demonstrate a 60 kW, modular and transportable power converter to effectively manage power between vehicle and microgrid or manage distributed energy devices within a microgrid
