The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to build a pilot version of a hull inspection and repair robot capable of in-theater inspection of a vessel’s hull for damage and performance of repairs. The overall goals include:

• Configuration, assembly and test of a pilot version of a hull inspection and repair robot
• Demonstration of the robot’s detection of defect sizing
• Demonstration of the robot’s control system, including the repair simulations in the digital twin
• Demonstration of satisfactory repair quality, with mechanical tests of the repaired object
