The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to build a pilot version of a hull inspection and repair robot capable of in-theater inspection of a vessel’s hull for damage and performance of repairs. The overall goals include:

Configuration, assembly and test of a pilot version of a hull inspection and repair robot
Demonstration of the robots detection of defect sizing
Demonstration of the robot’s control system, including the repair simulations in the digital twin
Demonstration of satisfactory repair quality, with mechanical tests of the repaired object
