The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the state-of-the-art in new sealing solutions that will enhance engine performance and maintainability. The approach should include:

• Develop diagnostic tools and processes to identify key failure modes that prevent successful seal operation and installation
• Utilize state-of-the-art computer simulation; experienced-based ML algorithms for training of AI models; and implementation of AM methods to design future sealing solutions
• Develop, demonstrate, and test robust and optimized seal designs that will enhance engine performance and maintainability
