The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to demonstrate how aging equipment such as CNC machines can be analyzed and upgraded with new technology components to enhance performance and reliability.

Specific objectives include:

  • Assess a specific SU-16 CNC unit’s current condition through milling tests, providing a baseline for all subsequent work
  • Restore the unit by integrating upgraded technology into existing equipment in a way that extendsthe machine’s lifespan and improve operational efficiency
  • Conduct testing to ensure it meets established specifications
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation and reports outlining the entire process, from initial assessment to final acceptance, and including any necessary technical data to facilitate future maintenance

If you feel your organization has the technical capabilities and would like to be considered for this project, please complete the form below and upload your organization’s technical capabilities statement.
