The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to establish a repeatable, scalable model for the fleet-wide integration of small unmanned surface vessels (sUSV) systems that address standardization of maintenance and sustainment procedures, and that develop a relevant and immersive training program with a responsive global logistics and support infrastructure. The overall goal is to create a vendor-agnostic and scalable platform that can be applied to other unmanned commercial and government systems.
Specific objectives include:
- Reducing failure and downtime of sUSVs through structured preventative maintenance systems
- Ensuring technicians are properly trained and thus eliminate dependency on original equipment manufacturers
- Deploying scalable logistics and certification methods
- Applying feedback loops from operations to refine doctrine, maintenance, and integration
