The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to demonstrate an innovative and repeatable approach for addressing the growing challenge of component obsolescence in legacy aircraft by developing and validating a replacement solution for a critical obsolete component on a specific aircraft platform. The overall goal is to establish a viable and modern manufacturing and qualification pathway that restores part availability while reducing maintenance and sustainment costs.

Specific objectives include:

  • develop a viable replacement design for four specific components
  • provide a scalable framework that can be applied to similar legacy components across military and commercial aviation
