The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to leverage commercial modeling and simulation technologies and design processes to improve the reliability and safety of vehicle fuel-fired heating (FFH) systems.
Key objectives of this initiative include:
- Design improved replacement that will increase component reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
- Reduce fuel consumption which will reduce operations costs
- Improve safety for vehicle occupants
- Design the heater as a drop-in replacement on most ground vehicle systems.
Phase III will focus on production of a pilot FFH and validation testing of the final design.
