The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to modernize manufacturing and repair capabilities with integration of digital tools and Industry 4.0 solutions for post processing of large components. The overall goal is to develop a digital platform for coupling data streams from scanning, modeling, machine process information, and post-build information for advanced manufacturing.
Specific goals include:
• Developing a multi-process production cell with robotics for scanning, machining, finishing, additive manufacturing and inspection of large castings.
• Integration of automation and controls to enable closed loop process control and autonomous operations of the cell.
• Construction of a prototype system (FISHERMAN) test bed at industry participant facility.
• Delivery of the minimum viable solution to support production of a prototype system from the Production Cloud Environment.
