The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to understand the interfacial adhesion properties of multiple types of substrates and to formulate A&S products with robust multi-substrate adhesion, ideally without the need for complex surface preparation methods.
Specific objectives include:
- Conduct a literature review on benchmark adhesion performance of commercial and prototype A&S materials on a variety of substrates
- Develop formulations toward multi-substrate adhesion, ideally without complex surface preparation needed
- Investigate long-term durability of multi-substrate joints via methods including corrosion, fatigue, thermal cycling, etc.
