The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to demonstrate a roadmap for utilizing a specific domestic semiconductor foundry as a source of next-generation radiation-hardened microelectronics. This initiative will establish a defined path toward ITAR and CUI compliance, a supporting infrastructure for secure data handling and design-to-fab workflows, and a foundation the foundry can build on toward full Trusted foundry status.

Specific objectives include:

  • Determine the portions of the foundry to be included in assessment—departments affected, workforce involved, and specific processes affected
  • Review current and proposed end-to-end business processes and flows, sector by sector, to design the least intrusive security solution to meet required security levels and accreditation
  • Develop and deliver an ITAR Guidance Plan, establishing requirements and implementation timing for a technology control plan, product classification guide, shipping and screening requirements, and an employee training plan
