The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to advance the state of the art in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and processes to improve technology integration, maintenance and sustainment activities, and resource and program decision making across various product lifecycles. Using two existing vehicles as testbeds, this initiative will employ MBSE tools and processes as a final demonstration to prove the feasibility for current and new systems integration, common architectures, and maintenance and sustainment activities across product lifecycles.

Phase II will build on the successes in Phase I and focus on developing a common approach that can help eliminate multiple design changes and integration challenges that have traditionally caused program delays, maintenance and sustainment issues, and increased costs.
