The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to advance the state of the art in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and processes to improve technology integration, maintenance and sustainment activities, and resource and program decision making across various product lifecycles. Using two existing vehicles as testbeds, Phases I and II employed MBSE tools and processes as a final demonstration to prove the feasibility for current and new systems integration, common architectures, and maintenance and sustainment activities across product lifecycles.

Phase III will build on Phases I and II by further advancing and demonstrating integrated engineering and sustainment approaches across three vehicle programs. Phase III will expand the application of systems engineering, digital engineering and MBSE, program protection, risk management, obsolescence management, cybersecurity, and software lifecycle management to improve requirements traceability, system integration, maintainability, and long-term platform readiness.
