The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the state of the art in automated processes and tools to optimize Field Sustainment Packages (FSPs) and improve the fielding, maintenance and sustainment of new vehicle systems. The overall goals are:

  • to create an ecosystem that allows for the rapid employment of analysis, engineering and sustainment processes and tools to optimize availability of spare parts, tools and test equipment, and technical and maintenance work instructions
  • to provide a common set of systems, processes, and tools to design, maintain, and sustain FSPs in a manner that increases system reliability, availability and maintainability throughout various product lifecycles
