The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to leverage advanced design testing and manufacturing tools and processes to develop and test new carbon air filters to meet emerging technical specifications and testing standards. Using the M48A1 Filter as a surrogate, this effort will provide a new innovative approach of implementing carbon filter testing processes and design and manufacturing techniques to pass first article test (FAT).
The overall goal will be to optimize testing and manufacturing processes that result in reduced maintenance and sustainment costs of all carbon filters for both commercial and military uses.
