The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the technology and operational capabilities of Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) to enhance public safety during maritime operations while extending asset longevity through maintenance avoidance and reducing lifecycle costs. The overall goal is to develop software technologies that improve maneuverability operations, mission management, and collision avoidance capabilities, ensuring scalability and affordability.
Specific objectives include:
- Develop, demonstrate, and test components
- Implement DDS messaging services and UMAA-compliant interfaces
- Support CI/CD pipeline development to streamline software updates and integration
- Develop and integrate visualization plugins for Command and Control software
- Integrate technologies into low-cost, low-power hardware architectures
