The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to clearly analyze the impacts of deferred maintenance to establish an understanding of the temporal relationship between un-serviced end items and subsequent component failures.

Specific objectives are to integrate this analytics capability to enable informed maintenance decisions for each asset that include:

  • Increased accuracy in demand planning forecasts.
  • A more predictable demand pattern that can enable “just in time” planning for associated assemblies.
  • Guidance for the reallocation or increase of depot resources to vehicles or components with the highest likelihood of failure.
  • Excellence in long-lead time forecasting of supply parts.
  • Accurate assessments of current and future supply chain requirements.
