The US Department of War is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to create a clear understanding of inputs and requirements to enable the establishment of domestically manufactured radiation-hardened processors to improve the quality and supply of these critical inputs to commercial, aerospace, and defense markets.

Specific objectives include:

  • Increase security and performance of processors for mission critical systems and infrastructure
  • Utilize domestic 12nm semiconductor fabrication technology
  • Assemble, test, and qualify processors domestically using state-of-the-art capabilities and a trusted supply chain
  • Enable supply chain sustainment for long-life operation of microelectronics
  • Establish points of need for reuse amongst multiple DoW programs of record

Phase III will build on the successes of earlier phases and focus on readying a rad hard microprocessor for production builds by obtaining production IP licenses, long-lead packaging materials, expanded test capabilities for high-volume, and emulation models for independent verification and validation.
