The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to advance the state of the art in damage assessment and repair processes and tools by establishing a forward deployed maintenance site capable of assessing and repairing damaged and broken equipment and components closer to operational areas. The overall goal is to demonstrate a rapid damage assessment and repair approach for a team equipped with the most advanced processes, tools, and supply chain ecosystem, who can bridge the gap until full repair teams or new parts arrive, ensuring a more resilient and responsive maintenance and repair capability closer to the point of need.

Once developed, this initiative will demonstrate a common approach to establish remote damage assessment and repair sites that can assess, repair, and maintain damaged heavy equipment and infrastructure in remote or hazardous environments that results in quick restoration of combat effectiveness and reduced downtime for repairs.
