The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to advance the state-of-the-art in digital engineering and advanced manufacturing tools and processes to redesign, test, and produce a new steering gear box prototype as a replacement to the current version of a legacy vehicle. Special emphasis will be placed on finding common tools and approaches to better assess new designs and manufacturing methods in ways that accelerate development and manufacturing cycles, improve performance, availability, and reliability, and reduce costs for manufacturing and maintenance and sustainment activities.
Phase II will leverage the lessons learned of the previous phase by optimizing advanced manufacturing techniques, improving supply chain and availability of parts, and validating an advanced manufacturing capability for the new steering gear boxes.
