The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to apply the data-driven decisions resulting from the application of a reliability centered maintenance(RCM) approach to reduce unnecessary maintenance time and costs during equipment refurbishment and upgrades. The overall goal is to use logical decisioning processes, in conjunction with customized data analytics tools, to determine and optimize failure management strategies and maintenance and sustainment techniques on legacy aircraft, propulsion and support equipment.
