The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on a multiphase CTMA initiative to advance the state of the art in the advanced manufacturing and supply chain technologies and processes to demonstrate how reliability methods can help produce better products on schedule, within reduced costs, and require less maintenance. Using the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle as a surrogate, the goal of this initiative is to rapidly identify manufacturing and supply chain risks related to critical electronics and mechanical components, retooling and reestablishment of the production line, and updating workflow packages and instructions.

Phase IV will leverage lessons learned from previous phases modifying critical components to comply with recent changes in technical hardware and coatings requirements and optimizing manufacturing processes with new laser cutting and robotic welding capabilities to assess impacts to output, quality, and ability to scale.
