The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to integrate a structured competency monitoring system for the Navy’s maintenance and repair ecosystem to ensure that Sailors are proficient, qualified, and effectively tracked throughout their careers.

Specific objectives include:

  • Develop a digital competency resume that allows leadership to assess Sailors’ proficiency in maintenance and repair tasks throughout their careers.
  • Utilize real-time competency tracking to inform decision-making, optimize training investments, and ensure personnel are equipped to support mission-critical maintenance needs.
  • Enable C900 to efficiently manage I-Level maintenance activities and oversee Navy Afloat Maintenance Training Strategy (NAMTS) program administration.
  • Streamline workforce training and sustainment strategies, to expand cost savings, and improve maintenance execution while reducing reliance on external support.
  • Leverage SSES as a framework that can be adapted to the broader maritime and industrial sectors.
