The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to construct a cryogenic distillation and purification system for the manufacture of ultra-high-purity(UHP) gases that are indispensable to semiconductor fabrication.
Specific goals include:
- Establish a domestic capability for producing UHP neon and helium from crude mixtures.
- Ensure a stable and secure supply chain for UHP neon and helium to reduce reliance on foreign sources
- Demonstrate scalability and efficiency improvements over existing purification methods
