The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to develop a nondestructive solution utilizing resonance frequency technology to measure and track liner wear within a plain spherical bearing.
The overall goal is for an industry partner to develop a resonance frequency technology solution that provides a consistent, accurate measure of the plain spherical bearing liner thickness that supports a condition-based maintenance philosophy. In addition, the industry partner will provide software, instruments, and training to support this effort.
