The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to create and demonstrate analytical tools to assess spare parts for a specific legacy aircraft, identifying where pricing exceeds commercial comparables and where streamlined technical specifications could reduce costs without compromising capabilities.

Specific objectives include:

  • Identify and quantify significant pricing gaps and develop implementation plan across:  
    • “Commercial-end-use” + Return On Investment (ROI) focus
    • Affordability / big cost drivers focus
  • Identify “off-ramp” opportunities, develop business case and develop implementation plan
