The US Navy is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to demonstrate the advantages of robotics in the maintenance and sustainment of ship hulls, as well as the advancement of the vacuum crawler arm of the FOSAR. This effort will utilize advancements in system architecture, the ROS2/microROS operating system, and the use of motor control components and communications developed for the FOSAR. Advances will be applied to the vacuum crawler system to ensure cross-centric compatibility of components, and the ability to apply future enhancements within each system.
