The US Department of Defense is partnering with industry and academia on an initiative to develop repeatable methods to assess water-related risks at specific military installations and identify mitigation strategies to improve sustainment of mission-critical systems. The overall goal is to develop a validated methodology that enables the assessment, anticipation, and mitigation of mission and operational impacts from water disruptions.
Specific objectives include:
- Exercise Method Development: Design and refine a scalable, repeatable tabletop exercise methodology for assessing water risk to mission operations.
- Strategic Integration Framework: Embed water system resilience into sustainment and operational readiness through America’s Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) compliance efforts.
- Readiness and Mission Assurance: Increase the ability of specific installations to fight from its bases in the face of water system disruptions to better defend and deter interference with the activities of key defense processes.
