CTMA Project #: 110453

Problem: Maintenance and sustainment of DOD combat systems is an annual multi-billion-dollar expense and reduces the readiness rates of critical military combat systems. There is a significant need for an easy to use, mobile tool that will accelerate surface preparation operations without negatively impacting the health of the operator or the underlying substrate.

Benefit: The PlasmaBlast technology requires no media, generates no waste streams beyond the removed coating, presents no undue occupational or environmental hazards to the operators, and can remove partial or whole coating layers across a wide variety of platforms.

Solution/Approach: The purpose of this work is to assist DOD Services with the knowledge and training necessary to successfully implement and deploy the PlasmaBlast systems during relevant technology demonstration events. Equipment can be employed and utilized across the depth and breadth of the battlespace at naval yards, ports, depots, arsenals, camps, stations, installations and forward at the tactical edge by maintenance units/organizations.

Impact on Warfighter:

  • Lightweight, portable, 5-minute set-up
  • Reduce maintenance costs and hours
  • Enhance equipment readiness

DOD Participation: US Navy

Industry Participation: Atmospheric Plasma Solutions, Inc.
